Email Help

Follow these instructions to set up your email account:

Open your email program. In this example we're using Microsoft Outlook Express.
Microsoft Outlook is very similar.

Click on Tools, then Accounts.

Click the Mail tab, then the Add button. If prompted for a type of account, select Mail.

Type in your name as you would like it to appear in outgoing emails. Click Next.

Type in your email address. Click Next.

Type in your email server information. Your server is a POP3 unless you are told otherwise.

Your Incoming mail server will either be mail.yourdomainname.com or pop.yourdomainname.com.

Your Outgoing mail server will either be mail.yourdomainname.com or smtp.yourdomainname.com.

Click Next.

Type in your Account name or user name and Password. Click Next.

The program will congratulate you on your typing and clicking skills. Click Finish.

At this point, your program is configured to receive email. Whether you can send email depends on your Internet Service Provider and the mail server to which you are assigned.

If you are on a permanent or always-on connection or you have Internet America dial-up, then you are probably finished. For example, if you are on a T1, cable modem, DSL (except for Earthlink DSL), or wireless broadband connection, then you should be able to send email using the newly created account. Make sure you are connected to the Internet and send a test message.

If you are on a dial-up connection (except for Internet America) or you are on Earthlink DSL, then you must follow the steps below to send email from the newly created account.

If you are connected to the Internet and you get one of the following errors when you try to send a test message, then you must follow the steps below.

Error: Transport Provider failed.
Error: Relay not allowed.

Click on Tools, then Accounts.

Make sure the new account is selected. Click Properties.

The Properties tabbed interface will appear.

While you're here, enter the Reply address.

Click the Servers tab.

Check the last box that says My server requires authentication.

If you were told specifically to check this box and you are on a permanent or always-on connection (except for Earthlink DSL) or you have Internet America dial-up, then you are finished. Click Apply, then Close. Close the Internet Accounts box and send a test email.

If you are on a dial-up connection (except for Internet America) or you are on Earthlink DSL, change the Outgoing mail to the setting given to you by your ISP.

Click the Settings button.

Enter the Account name and Password that were issued to you by your ISP. Click OK, then Apply, then Close. Close the Internet Accounts box and send a new test email.
